What Causes Swelling And Redness Around The IV Infusion Site On Hand?

My wife s hand is swollen and has a redish half dollar size mound on it.this happened the day after we injected h into a vien near her thumb.we have been useing Advil and ice.the swelling has gone down some.but it is very painfull.we don t want to go to the emergency room because once they know the cause the treat you like scum.we are good people and have been self medicating.can or should I lance it with the proper precautions?

Hello Sir. Thanks for writing here.
I'm suspecting an infection which spreads through contaminated needles. You can go for a 5 day course of amoxcillin and use local anaesthesia like lignocain to get relief from pain. Don't worry about the condition, it would get better with these medications.
