What Causes Swelling And Redness In The Arms?

Three days ago I was doing some serious weeding...when I took a shower at the end of that day I noticed a red swollen area on my arm. I don t remember feeling any kind of a bite that afternoon during the weeding. The area on my arm is red, swollen and feels almost hardened... and it itches just a bit. I also feels quite warm to the touch. Yesterday I decided to apply a cold pack to help reduce the swelling. After my shower the evening after being bit I used some rubbing alcohol to cleanse the area and have since been applying Gold Bond medicated anti-itch cream. The hardened area seems to be smaller now. Should I be doing something more to help that area? I wish I knew what bit me or maybe the affected area was some kind of a weed reation??? Thank you for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It may be a reaction to contact with a specific plant or insect. You are treating it correctly, the only additional treatment would be to use an oral anti histamine such as benadryl, claritine, allegra or zyrtec.

If it is painful then an oral anti inflammatory agent would be helpful as well eg naproxen or ibuprofen.

I hope this helps
