What Causes Swelling And Redness On The Lips?

For the past 5 months my lips will puff and the area above and below the lips will get red. The lips will get hot spots near the redness. A PA told me it could be caused by my thyroid. Or stress. I can control it by using cortezone cream. What would cause this? I have never had it before.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain sudden swelling and redness of the lips seems to be due to Allergic Angioedema and can be due to exposure to some unknown allergen and as the effect of the allergen is reduced, the swelling starts subsiding gradually..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise you investigations like Patch test , RAST test, food challenge test and rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly..

As of now you can take anti allergics like Benadryl in case if the swelling recurs..
You can also do cool compresses over the lips and cheek..
Drink plenty of water and take a nutritious diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
