What Causes Swelling And Redness On The Scalp After Removing A Tick?

Last night I found a tick on my scalp near my neck. Tick was removed, but since then am very sore & swollen at the site & neck is stiff. I get about 6 tick bites/year and always get quite swollen & red at the site...I am somewhat immune compromised. Been to my doctor several times for other bites, usually she is not alarmed and gives me a short course of antibiotics not sure if I need another doc visit--appreciate advice, thx...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swelling and redness can be due to a local reaction from the tick bite but the most important thing to rule out is infection. Tick bites do have the risk of transmitting infections and generally antibiotics are recommended every time this happens and especially having signs of inflammation (redness and swelling) in the area.

It is advisable for you to see the doctor again and possibly take the antibiotics needed to prevent infections from tick bites.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
