What Causes Swelling And Severe Pain In Groin Area?

Recetly or should i say around a month ago i started getting extreme pain in my groin and up my plvic area. It was sever the first time it happened and my testicles turned redish blue so i put ice on them on and of for a day or so and it got better. Ever since occasionally i get sharp pains in my pelvic region , but today i was simply laying over the front of a car working on it and at the time it did not hurt . When i returned home and went to get out of my truck i was suddenly hit with unbearable pain along both sides of my penis and my testicles are red and swollen , IS IT A HERNIA ?? or something else . Once i sit down and move slowly getting up it is bearable but if i cough it kills me up both sades of my groin into the base of my stomach.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I understand your concern. This is a classic description of a condition called testicular torsion.Torsion occurs as the testicle rotates between 90° and 180°, compromising blood flow to and from the testicle. Complete torsion usually occurs when the testicle twists 360° or more.

The twisting of the testicle causes venous occlusion and engorgement as well as arterial ischemia and infarction of the testicle. The degree of torsion the testicle endures may play a role in the viability of the testicle over time.

There are other differential diagnoses too. i would advice you to visit your family doctor or a general surgeon as soon as possible.

Hope the discussion helps.
