What Causes Swelling And Shooting Pain In The Leg?

I ran into a small ladder last night and hit my shin pretty hard. I did break the skin. Today I have a lot of swelling and some shooting pain when I sit but when I walk, stand and especially driving there is a lot of pain and shooting down my foot. I hate to go to doctor if it s not necessary but it seems to be getting more painful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The swelling & pain after injury, suggests injury to bone, sprain, or mostly fracture. An X-ray would define the exact cause followed by specific management under an orthopedic surgeon's care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
