Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 65. I had a wellness check up this year and all blood work and vitals were very good. I am over weight but I still work and am fairly active. I don t take any medications. My left calf is swollen and is sore. I don t think I have done anything to cause this. What could cause this?
Soreness and swelling in the calf region should not be neglected. It can be that there is a thrombus or blood clot in the deep veins of the leg and this is an emergency condition.
Please consult your doctor immediately and get a venous Doppler scan of the affected leg and a D dimer test done. This will clarify if you have any dangerous condition like deep vein thrombosis.
Once deep vein thrombosis is excluded then other conditions like cellulitis or infection of the leg should be investigated for. Please consult your doctor.
