Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling And Stiffness In The Finger Joints?
Every morning when I awake, all of my fingers both left and right are swollen and stiff at the joint. It is difficult to use your fingers to grab toilet paper for an example. I had an X-ray that shows nothing, normal. I had a blood panel done and no RA or another type of arthritis. My doctor wants to give me a nerve test to see if I have carpal tunnel.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, you should definitely get done EMG (electro myography) and NCV (nerve conduction velocity) study to rule out carpal tunnel syndrome. If nerve study is normal then possibility of sero negative arthritis is more likely. Some patients don't show positive RA (rheumatoid arthritis) factor but still have arthritis. So it is advisable to start RA treatment despite of negative RA factor because of your symptoms are classical of RA. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
