Hi Oletha,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Let me recapitalize your case:
- 54 years old female
- overweight
- swollen left ankle
- heating pad not helping

If you noticed the left ankle swollen within the last 48 hours, that could be due to:
- possible trauma: sprain, hit to a solid object, etc. especially if you notice a bruising locally.
- inflammation of ankle joint possible due to arthritis

Heating pad is not recommended for the first 48 hours after trauma, should apply cold compresses locally. After that you can apply heating pad.

Take oral anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen.

Avoid moving your ankle to prevent further edema. Keep your leg raised to help circulation of blood locally.

If no improvement, or if it is getting worse, then, should discuss further with your physician as X-ray of the ankle is needed together with other blood tests (e.g. kidney function test, urine analysis, complete blood count) to exclude kidney problems.

Wish fast recovery.
