What Causes Swelling And Tightness Of Lower Leg After Stretching?
I was running around porch with my dogs, I turned a corner back, outstretched my right leg at a curve angle to run faster, playing with dogs suddenly I heard a pop in lower leg it has slowly swelled and feels tight in that area- I took a bath soaking in warm water - it feels like its getting tighter more difficult to walk on.Should I wrap it up with gaze..... tight..... or apply heat or ice ... any advice I am 55 but extremely active for my age... also should I stay off of for next few days or try to walk on it?
Hi, Thanks for contacting HCM. When one hears an audible popping sound followed by tightness and swelling, it is important to get an xray to rule out possible fractures in the ankle or foot. If it is in the area of the lower leg, just above the heel, the concern would be a possible injury to the Achilles tendon. Before knowing what the condition is for certain, it usually is a good idea to stay off of the area, ice, and elevate the area until it can be reviewed, hopefully very soon, in office. I hope this answered your question. If you have any further questions, I am here to help. Thanks.
