What Causes Swelling At I/V Site Of Iron Infusion?

Hi, I just had an iron infusion and the area directly below the IV site (in my forearm) is really noticeably swollen and bruised. And it kind of hurts to move my arm around much. I ve been told I have very flat, small veins and it s always hard for them to find a good one. I m wondering if this is normal. I ve had three infusions within the last couple weeks, and my veins have never been this swollen.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Respected user, hi I evaluated your query.
*Partially out incidence of intracath has given you this incidence.
*Relax, apply ice 3-4 times a day over the vein along with gentle massage
of Thrombophobe ointment starting from center of the vein to outwards
for 3-4 times a day ( after intracath has been removed ) relieves it.
- In our clinic after clinical assessment & local part evaluation deeply, if
needed we recommend Penicillin group of antibiotics with anti-
inflammatory agents for faster recovery.
Hope this clears your doubts.
Thanks for using Health Care Magic & keeping trust in our medical services
Wishing you fast and speedy recovery from the same.
