What Causes Swelling Below Knees Long After Bilateral Knee Surgery?
I had bilateral knee surgery almost 5 years ago. I did the exercises told to + had a good ROM. However, I have swelling BELOW both knees which is quite painful and makes me walk oddly. I am always in pain. In summer I do pool walking but that does not really help a lot. I ve had lots of different opinions, which I find confusing (and annoying!) I have just seen a Specialist who said the actual joints were perfect . I ve had doplar tests and now bone scans - awaiting the results, altho the Specialist though it was soft tissue damage. Also my feet are often cold and the soles sort of, numb. Help please!
As per my clinical experience, the long term swelling below knee after bilateral knee replacement indicates various possibilities as: - Tissue insult or trauma during surgery - Impaired lymphatic return - Secondary effects of joint prosthesis irritating ligament insertion sites - Others However, if you can provide me CT images during follow up session, it would be better interrogative session to proceed with.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
