What Causes Swelling In Ankle And Feet After Using A Knee Brace?

I wear a knee brace due to deterioration of the cartilage. Its not overly tight and doesn t really bother me--except for hindering my movement. I have noticed lately that my ankle and foot have become swollen. I move around a lot during the day so I don t really have time to prop my leg up. Is this something I need to be more concerned with?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to edema.

There are many causes that can cause leg edema.

One of the possible causes is walking for too long.

I also recommend checking cardiac function and blood pressure.

I suggest to maintain the legs elevated and I also suggest taking diuretics to help with the edema.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
