My 85 year old husband has swelling in ankles and feet and no feeling in his feet and wants to know what is causing this. He has high blood pressure and afib, both treated. He recently was hospitalized for low sodium level that caused fatique, but is now corrected. He is overweight, but never smoked and does not have sugar diabetes.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling in ankle and feet . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like Lymphedema , taking certain antidepressants , such as tricyclics , taking certain blood pressure medications , organ failure like heart, liver, or kidney , pericarditis or cirrhosis . I would suggest you to consult general practitioner for proper checkup . Doctor may order ECG , liver and kidney function test . Doctor may refer you to cardiologist for heart problem , nephrologist for kidney faliure or to gastro for liver . For now lower the salt consumption and keep your legs elevated while lying down .
