What Causes Swelling In Eyes Of A Child After Swimming?

Hi, I took my two children swimming Monday evening (age 1 yr and 2 yr). My ONE year old was rubbing his eye but later was fine the rest of the evening. The next day (Tuesday) he woke up with his eye swollen shut. It gradually opened but was still swollen all day. It started to go down but swells up again when he falls asleep. It s still swollen. What is this? What do I need to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
This is an allergic reaction, perhaps to the chlorine in the water.

At his age, you should have a doctor take a look at this to determine if he needs oral benadryl to resolve the problem
