What Causes Swelling In Gums And Cheeks Inspite Of Taking Advil And Tylenol?

I have swollen cheek, swollen gum, but pain subsided but still have swelling. I cannot get to a dentist any time soon. See I am currently unemployed, no insurance, and no money to pay. I also have an underlying MVP that the dentist won't see me without cardiologist ok, but can't afford to see dr. Is there anything I can do besides possibly antibiotic to get swelling down? I have tried gargling with salt and water, using clove oil, used vanilla extract to remove pain, which worked. Advil and Tylenol has not helped. Thoughts?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms if you have swollen gum and swollen face with respect to wisdom tooth it can be due to PERICORONITIS that is the Inflammation of the gum flap surrounding the wisdom tooth and can be due to infection caused by food accumulation between the gum and tooth..

Other cause which is not related to wisdom tooth can be formation of DENTAL ABSCESS in a deeply decayed tooth leading to pus formation below the root tips of the tooth..

It will be better for you to stop doing home remedies and consult a dentist and get an x Ray of the offending tooth done..

In case if it is Pericoronitis then if tooth is erupting in a correct direction and position then removal of gum flap or at times antibiotics and painkillers alone resolves the problem..

If it is other tooth then either Root canal treatment if tooth can be saved or Extraction if cannot be saved followed by antibiotics and painkillers will relieve..

As of now take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, do warm saline gargles and do cold compresses over swelling for improvement but consult a dentist soon for a confirmatory diagnosis and treatment..

He will take a proper medical history and if only any fitness confirmation is required then only you will be referred to any other specialist otherwise not.
And this is also for your betterment only to prevent any undue complications..

Hope this information helps..
