What Causes Swelling In Hand At The Site Of Injection?

Hi - I recently had surgery to remove my gallbladder. While the surgery went well, the iv in my left hand was apparently not inserted corrected and swelling occurred around the injection area. Now, roughly two weeks later, the swelling is still present and has extended to my wrist. Is this normal or should I be getting this looked at?
