Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In Leg And Diabetes After Brain Stroke?
I had a brainstem stroke in May 2009. I have been making very good progress. I walk, talk and eat. My question involves my right side leg, feet and ankle. Why is my right foot swelling so much now? I also have diabetes that developed after the stroke.
Swelling of unilateral foot is not related to stroke. A few causes of unilateral swelling of foot are trauma (even trivial one can cause swelling due to diabetes leading to diabetes foot), fracture of any bone at ankle joint, chronic venous disease (like varicose veins), lymphatic obstruction or any infection. To identify the accurate cause, clinical examination of foot and any doppler study if necessary are required to be done. Consult a physician.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
