Hi,

Progressive swelling of the paralysed limb is something that need to be evaluated. Since there is no active movement of muscles there, venous blood flow become sluggish, predisposing to blood clot formation(venous thrombosis).

This can cause progressive edema and swelling. This needs urgent evaluation and management to prevent clot dislodgement and trapping in vital organs.

Kindly discuss with your doctor without delay. You may be asked for an ultrasound doppler study. Meanwhile avoid massaging the area until thrombosis is ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
