What Causes Swelling In Scrotum Post Hernia Surgery?
My boyfriend had hernia surgery one year ago and formed a seroma in his scrotum. Last Friday they surgically removed the seroma and placed an old fashion drain w. No bulb so it can leak freely. My concern is his scrotum is almost the size of a bowling ball and now both sacks are extremely swollen. Do we need to worry that his other sack will form a seroma now? When does this become an issue? Very concerned
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I do lot of hernia and this is not unusual complciation. You should not worry about other sack since sacs are do not communicate unless there was surgical opening of septum between two sacks. Seromas and hematomas form commonly after hernia surgery and it may look dramatic however in most cases it pulls back with no intevention. If drain is placed then this will leak till seroma forms. Only if pain, redness or pus secretion occur, you can see doctor urgently, but for everything else he needs to be patient. Also, keen sacks elevated by some samll pillow when laying down would be beneficial. In severe cases, new surgerymay be required but this is rarity. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
