What Causes Swelling In The Abdomen And Legs After Cholecystectomy?

I just had surgery to have my gallbladder removed on 10-10-17. The whole right side of my stomach is extremely swollen along with my vaginal area and legs. I ve gained 15 lbs in a week and a half. I went back to the ER to make sure I didn t have a bile leak and they said everything looked fine on my tests. They sent me home with 20 mg of Lasix but the swelling still isn t subsiding. I have to spread my legs completely just to pee from the swelling. Is this normal and when will it go away? I m absolutely miserable.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is my pleasure to answer your query here.
* As per my clinical experience, the abdomen swelling with this substantial leg swelling have to be associated with underlying problem as

- bile drainage blockage
- kidney problems
- electrolyte imbalances
- protein level alterations
- others.

* In our clinic, I recommend to evaluate the case with thorough lab tests, CT scan of abdomen & pelvis for further management guidelines.
* There can not be a clean cheat that everything is fine with this condition. Do continue to use our medical services.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
