My husband is an 80 year old gentleman who had a toe inflection and fever of 102.4 six days ago. After a visit to the ER he was sent home with Augmentin and Keflex and advised to see a podiatrist for treatment of the toe. Within 24 hours he was treated by a podiatrist for an infected ingrown toenail which was removed. We have been caring for the wound which looks normal and he has been taking his medications. Last night (day five) he had swelling in the ankle and a rash appeared on his ankle and the lower calf of the foot that had received surgery. We called the podiatrist who said if the wound was infected, there would be red streaks from the wound; there is not. We contacted our pharmacy about the possibility of drug reaction and were told it could be an adverse drug reaction but since no other symptoms, not an allergic reaction. There is no difficulty breathing or swelling of mouth or face. The rash is still apparent, but the swelling has subsided. This being Thanksgiving weekend, all his doctors offices are closed. There is no fever, just the rash. Please advise.
