Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In The Body Joints Along With Blood In Stool?
my 22 year old son has swelling of his bones and joints, bones popping in chest area, bone degeneration in chest area, a hole near his heart with air seeping thru, chronic pain, small amount of blood in his stool, spots on his lungs. what could be the cause of all these symptoms?
In most cases, causes of abdominal pain and bleeding through rectum are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet, and Sitz baths.
It is very important to take a lot of fluids, probiotics, high fiber food, and stool softeners to avoid hard stool and straining. If there is no improvement in the next few weeks, then surgical management should be considered.
Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss.
Otherwise, you can see if conservative therapy will help and consult proctologist if necessary.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
