What Causes Swelling In The Calf And Toes?

I have had a boil for 20 years on my calf, it finally has swollen. I am already taking an antibiotic for an abscess for 10 days. My leg is now swollen to my toes. It is barely draining, I don t want to go to the er bc I know how they drain them. Should I be concerned?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you should be concerned though effective treatment is still possible.

The spread of swelling to most of the leg implies that you may have cellulitis though this would need to be confirmed by your doctor.
Cellulitis refers to infection involving the deep layers of the skin.

In mild cases, only oral antibiotics may be needed but if it is severe then iv antibiotics would be needed which would require in hospital care.

Early intervention would prevent or reduce the chance of hospitalization.

I hope this helps
