What Causes Swelling In The Finger After An Insect Bite?

My son got bit by an ant or some kind of bug on his middle finger, I took him to the doctor and she put him on an antibiotic callcephalexin 500 mg. He has been on the medicine for 3 days and the finger is getting bigger and itching like crazy should the medicine be working by now?

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of swelling in the finger after an insect bite which could be due to infected sting and venom accumulation.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you keep that area dry and apply a warm, moist washcloth or compress and apply soothing lotions. You should gently wash the infected skin twice a day with antibacterial soap. Take a diet rich in fluids. Consult a dermatologist for proper examination and start treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
