my 80 year old dad is visiting and he has swelling in his right foot ankle and calf. he had seen his cardiologist a few weeks ago who said it was not a problem. He did order some test which came back neg. My dad is not worried by this but I notice the swelling is much worse by the end of the day and am quite concerned. what type of Dr. should he see?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Swelling in one leg is not due to cardiac cause. Cardiac issues cause swelling in both lower limbs.
If the swelling is in a single limb, other causes must be ruled out like arterial or venous causes, history of insect bite or trauma to that limb, etc. As you have not mentioned any symptom, my advice would be to go to a general surgeon for proper workup & management.
Thank you
