What Causes Swelling In The Gums After Tooth Extraction?

Hello... today is monday and I had an infected tooth pulled last monday. My face was swollen to my eye socket and I woke up three days later with a black eye I have no pain where the tooth was pulled. Swelling went down But my lymph nodes under my jaw just started to give me problems plus my gums are swollen and not where the tooth was pulled. Im also geting head aches now too..Its seems like the antibiotics can't keep up with the infection. I'm worried the infection spread.

Thanks for the query..

As per your complain if there is no pain at the site of extraction and if the gums are swollen along with pain and swelling then it can be probably gum flap infection or Pericoronitis if it is associated with wisdom tooth..

However in case if it is due to some other tooth in the jaw then it is probably due to deep infection in the tooth leading to dental abscess formation..

I would suggest you to consult a Dentist and get evaluated and an x ray of tooth can be done..

In case if it is due to Pericoronitis then a course of antibiotics and painkillers will help..
Doing warm saline gargles and cool compresses on cheek can be done for relief..
In case if it is due to some other tooth then either root canal treatment or extraction of tooth depending on condition of tooth will help..

As of now you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and do cool compresses over the swelling..
Take a soft diet and avoid chewing from painful side..
