Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My 5 months old baby just fell from bed. He was crying for some time but after few minutes later he is acting normally, but there is a swelling on his head thats why i am worried, even if we touch his head he starts crying. Please suggest what to do.
The most reassuring thing is that he is acting normally. Signs that would indicate his fall was serious include:
-loss of consciousness
- vomiting(more than once)
-eyes with different size pupils
-eye movements that are not symmetrical(each eye moves in a different direction).
The swelling on his head is most certainly a hematoma(blood under the skin)from the fall. Consider it like a prominent bruise. Nothing needs to be done.
It should slowly get smaller and may take a month or so to disappear.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
