What Causes Swelling In The Hips After An Injury?

I had a bike accident and landed on my right hand, elbow and hip, I got up immediately and continued riding then spent the rest of the day moving furniture. My hip is swollen the diameter of a tennis ball when leg is fully extended. I can walk on it and raise and lower it , but the day after I am feeling some pain. I feel the most pain, though not unbearable if I cross my right foot over my left while laying flat on my back on the bed. I can walk on it, but feel slight pain at the point of iimpact. Could I hang from an inversion table with any beneifit. Both leg still appear the same length.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Some swelling is expected after trauma, this occurs as part of the body's inflammatory response. In general, the signs and symptoms from trauma, peak about day 2 to 3, then plateau, then eventually improve.

If the pain is severe then you should be seen and imaging may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
