What Causes Swelling In The Knee?

Thanks, l have a knee that becomes very puffy after being on my feet for any length of time. I have seen my GP regarding the knee and he informed and treated me for bursitis. I think it may be more than bursitis as l cannot kneel or get the full use of the knee. Sometimes I have felt a sharp pain shooting through the knee. My age is 64 and have had an arthroscopy on the other knee many years ago. Should I seek a second opinion?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you should definitely consult orthopedic doctor for second opinion. You need clinical examination of knee joint, x ray and MRI of knee joint. You might be having effusion or severe OA (osteoarthritis) of knee joint. You may need aspiration of fluid or total knee replacement depend on diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
