What Causes Swelling In The Legs After Eating Food High In Sodium?

Hello, All day my legs have been so swollen that it feels like my skin is going to pop. The only thing that s different is that I ve been eating tuna, pizza, and Chinese food the past few days, which I know are all high in sodium. I have no other symptoms and no arm swelling. I take Lisinopril 10 mg daily for hypertension and just started SMZ 2x day for MRSA. I did bump my toe badly 2 weeks ago, and I m wondering if it could be broken even though I can walk

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swelling usually comes from a combination of many medical conditions. Some of them are:

- poor heart function,

-being overweight

-weak leg veins

-prolonged sitting

-liver or kidney disease

-and salty food.

I suggest checking cardiac and kidney function to exclude these possible causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
