What Causes Swelling In The Legs While On Warfarin?

I take warfarin for my A-Fib heart condition. The past week my legs have become extremely swollen and just now when I took my shoes off there was bruising on the top of my toes. I have recently broken my hip and returned to work last week. I have an office job where I sit most of the day. I have a physical therapy appointment tomorrow, should I wait until then to consult with my therapist, or is this a concern I should take to urgent care or emergency room tonight?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should definitely get yourself checked out. Warfarin makes your blood more prone to hemorrhage.

Please get your coagulation profiles checked to see if you are within your target INR or otherwise you have to change your dosage of the Warfarin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Adnan Iqbal
