What Causes Swelling In The Lower Leg After A Total Knee Replacement?
I had a fall on June 19th, at church. My head hit the speaker and I fell on my right knee, which has an total knee replacement (1998). My right leg is swollen from the knee to the toes. It is very hot and I perspire quite a lot. No fever that i know of.The swelling is mostly in the late afternoon and evening. Could I have phelibitis?
Swelling in the lower leg after a total knee replacement is commonly due to fluid retention. Take a low salt diet & keep your legs in rest after lunch. Perspiration is due to anxiety, stress, hypertension or developing CAD.
While sitting keep your foot elevated while on bed keep your foot elevated on a pillow. The swelling will be much reduced. If still you have discomforts then you should get clinically examined by a GP. Medical conditions that may cause such discomforts are infection, venous thrombosis, etc.
Get all investigations done to rule out medical conditions or any developing CAD & get treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
