What Causes Swelling In The Neck After Tooth Extraction?
A few weeks ago I had an absessed tooth removed (right lower molar) and a course of antibiotics. Now the right side of my neck is swollen and very sore. The tenderness goes from below my ear to the center of my jaw. Just wondering what it might be? Still infection from the tooth?
It does not look like due to the extracted tooth but it looks like to be due to Infection in any other tooth or there is also a possibility of infection in submandibular salivary gland..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get an examination done..
A course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be advised for a week for salivary gland infection and if there is tooth related Infection then treatment of tooth can be done . If there is deep tooth decay then Root canal treatment can be done but if the tooth is not in a condition to be saved then extraction of tooth is to be done..
You should proceed for treatment soon as if left untreated then the infection can spread to facial spaces..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
