What Causes Swelling In The Nose On The Left Side?

Around Thanksgiving time my son had a swollen nose on the left side. I took him to the doctor for it and they gave him an antibiotic. It went away but after a few weeks his nose started to peel. Soon as one layer is gone it starts to peel another. At times it is very red and even cracks. It helps to put bag balm on it at night but it just hasn t gone away. We are thinking it may be something we need to take him to a dermatologist for. What do you recommend?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a furuncle.

I suggest washing the area with antibacterial soap.

I also suggest the application of an antibiotic cream.

If the symptoms continue your father should see a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
