What Causes Swelling In The Nostril?

Can you give any information or advice on this: I have some sort of possible infection right inside one of my nasal cavities. It is swolen and round, like a pimple but under the skin. The exterior of my nose is sloghtly red in that spot, just to the side of the tip of my nose. Inside it feels rough like a scab, which it may be. I try not to make it worse but I could be unconsciously rubbimg or scratching it in my sleep. I have already applied some Bactroban to it, in addition to generic Neosporin. It has only been swolen for a day or two.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The most likely cause is an infection in a boil type lesion. Less likely a previously existing unnoticed nasal polyp can present when acute inflammation has taken place.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
General & Family Physician
