What Causes Swelling In The Right Armpit?

I have an area underneath my right armpit, which has suddenly become very large & swollen. It has happened within the past 2-3 hours. It is not tender or sore, but it is a growth about the size of a large avacado & visible to anyone who looks at it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swelling in the armpit is an indication of infected lymph nodes under your arms & this can be due to allergic reaction, use of antiperspirant or irritation due to shaving. Some swellings are harmless. However, it can be some growth, lipomas, fibroadenomas, some developing cancerous mass(breast) especially if its painful. Go to ER, get physically examined, get CBC, X-ray, biopsy, allergy testing done to screen out developing pathology if any. In the meantime take Acetaminophen for relieve from pain & antibiotics like Amoxycillin, thrice daily for 5 days, stay connected with PCP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
