What Causes Swelling In The Throat?

My sister who is obese, but has never smoked, aged 65, has some throat issues as follows: tissue feels swollen in the back of throat, feels like something is kind of stuck there, passageway feels a little narrow for breathing, and she coughs at times when it feels like food might be catching on something. What could be the possibilities? Thank you!

Hi,

It could be dysphagia due to acid reflux, erosions or ulcers. You need to take a GI opinion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshita, Ophthalmologist
