What Causes Swelling In The Top Of The Hand?

Over the last 5 days I have experienced swelling on the top of my right hand. It is not in the fingers, but at the top, between the three joints between the pointer, middle and ring fingers. It has been achy on and off and feels better with ice applied. I am wondering if I may be developing arthritis though I have not had any issues in the past.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swelling which you have described can be due to focal tendinitis of small bones of hands. An MRI of hand should be done to look for the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
