What Causes Swelling In The Vagina After Insertion Of Mirena?

I had mirena inserted today. After the procedure my doctor used and orange substance on my crevice I believe. Tonight I noticed when I went to the bathroom that my virgina feels swollen shut. Is this a normal side effect of the mirena or the orange substance?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Usually insertion of mirena leads to bleeding spots and swelling in the cervix. It's a copper t and take around two to three weeks for body to adopt. Abdominal cramps may occur. but all these are common. So no need to worry. it will go on its own. If it's much swollen, take tablet ibuprofen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
