What Causes Swelling In Throat Along With Lack Of Appetite?

Hi - One side of the back of my throat is swollen and gives me a choking lump feeling, up high. I look in there and that side is nearly closed off, but otherwise normal, pink, smooth. The other side has a somewhat swollen tonsil - has been for years. It s soft, not a pain. Also I feel a chill down at the bottom of throat which I suspect to be reflux (though no heartburn) - also I have no appetite, and am losing weight. This swelling has been going on for a month and a half. No fever or illness. Stress is sky high. Usually there is less swelling in morning, and some days is barely there. Is this hysteria?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling in throat along with lack of appetite which seems to be due to infection and inflammation of lymph nodes in throat region and due to swollen tonsils leading to tonsillitis.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and get blood test , swab test and sputum test done to find out proper diagnosis and start treatment accordingly.

- For now drink plenty of water and avoid fatty and spicy food.

- Avoid taking cold carbonated beverages.

- Take diet rich in vitamin C.

- Do warm saline gargles on daily basis.
