Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What causes swollen ankles and feet? It happened rather suddenly after I started taking a new medication. So I stopped taking the medication. The swelling went down a little bit, but I still can t get my shoes on. I m wondering if it s related to something else and not a side effect of the medication? YYYY@YYYY
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling of ankles and feet . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case the symptoms are probably due to meralgia paresthetica , gout , organ failure like kidney and liver . The cause of meralgia paresthetica is compression of the nerve that supplies sensation to the skin surface of your thigh. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination. Doctor may order x-ray imaging , electromyography , nerve conduction study , nerve blockade with anesthesia . Doctor may refer you to nephrologist for kidney problem or gastroenterologist for for liver disease . Doctor may prescribe corticosteroid injections , tricyclic antidepressants or gabapentin. For loose some weight .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
