What Causes Swelling Of Ankles Post Knee Replacement?

I had a ultrasound to rule out blood clot and it was negative. I had total knee replacement 7 weeks ago, but have had swelling of ankle for past 3 days on same leg as surgery. I have very bad feet and bone fusion 12 years ago on same foot. I also have sciatica pain on same side. I m still in physical therapy and dealing with many issues. I do everything they tell me and try walking as much as I can but pain in foot and leg is a challenge.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Following your symptom of ankle edema following a post knee replacement surgery with a history of bad feet bone fusion sciatica I am suggesting the following differential diagnosis

Peripheral vascular disease
Arthritis
Myositis
Tendonitis
Malunion of ankle bones
Cellulitis
Deep venous thrombosis

In view of this you will need to see an orthopaedic surgeon for further clinical assessment but before then please do the following test

Doppler scan
Blood culture
ESR
X-ray of the ankle

Please take
Tablet nurofen
Tablet cerebrex
Tablet Athrotec
Continue with your physical therapy
I hope this helps
