What Causes Swelling Of Legs After Total Hip Replacement Surgery?

What is the cause and treatments for extreme swelling of the leg after total hip replacement? I had hip replacement on Friday July, 22 and have had swelling of the leg that had the surgery. Elevating the leg doesn t help much and neither does walking (with crutches). These were the things the physical therapist said to do. Is there something else I should do? I am on a blood thinner.

Swelling persists for some time after surgery but not for so long. If it is still there you should contact your surgeon for the blood flow in your legs.
