Hi,
Lymph nodes are the tissue that fight against infection in our body. Normal nodes are less than half a inch in diameter. It may become swollen when there is infection due to bacteria, virus, fungal and even in cancer. The lymph nodes in the groin are called as inguinal nodes. Inguinal nodes drain the lower
limbs, genitals and
urinary tract. Skin infections, urinary tract infections and infections of the genitalia may be lymph node enlargement.
Cancer in the lower limbs, back and genital tumour may spread to the inguinal nodes. Usually there are groups of lymph nodes enlargement called as
lymphadenopathy, in case of tumour. Solitary lymph node enlargement is insignificant.
Biopsy is the best investigation to diagnose the cause. Management depends on the cause such antibiotics,
antiviral, excision of the tissue, etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
