My 1 year old have been sick from an upper respiratory infection for the past two months and still not getting over it, and now he developed a stomach virus with a fever and I got him over that and I took him to the doctor a couple days ago for his shots and I notice today that his gums in the back are really swollen. I know that him having shots are not related, I just want to know what do I do for my son with his gums so swollen? Does it mean his back teeth are about to cut in or something worse because it look too swollen for a tooth that is about to cut in
Hi.. swelling of gums may occur if there is eruption of teeth like molars which is getting obstructed. Just have a look into his oral cavity and find out if there is any teeth coming out. Another cause is dental caries with poor hygiene can cause swelling of gums. At 1 year if diet is deficient in vitamin C then swellings of gums and bleeding can occur. On your primary inspection of the oral cavity you will be able to find out whether there is any tooth eruption or caries teeth present.
