What Causes Swelling Of The Scrotum?

Hi, I was bathing my son, aged 2 years and 3 months, tonight and noticed that the left side of his scrotum was swollen. Both testies are visible. Is this something we should be worried about or will it pass and if so how long will it take to pass?
Thanks,
Steve.
