What Causes Swelling Of Tonsils?

I went to sleep last night and woke up early this morning gagging, because it felt like I was choking on my tonsils. They do not hurt, but I instantly sprayed them with some throat spray and took an allergy pill this morning. Throughout the day, they have gone down a little bit, but are still swollen. I don't know what caused them to swell up so much. I've had this happen to me several times before, and they always go down. Can you tell me what it causing them to sell like this?

Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern once this is tonsillitis then the tonsil gland swollen and this remains like this for some time even after eradication of infection and swelling and this is just enlargement and not the swelling and this is nothing to worry with the time this would be fine soon, take care.
