What Causes Swelling Of Veins That Looks Reddish On Left Calf Muscles?

I have noticed veins right above my calf muscle on my left leg that have me a bit concerned. They are kind of bulging and sometimes it looks purple/red ish. I work two jobs that require a lot of standing, so I am constantly on my feet. I m also pretty active - I bike, hike, & work-out my lower body frequently. I was recently wearing shorts and someone asked me about it. I am concerned, obviously for cosmetic reasons, but also I ve been experiencing a lot of leg pain (mainly at night when lying down). I attributed this to the fact that I m on my feet so much, but I am wondering if I should have it looked at by a doctor?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have swelling of veins that looks reddish on left calf muscles . Well the symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as varicose veins or Venous insufficiency . There can be many reason for varicose veins like Venous insufficiency and varicose veins occur when the calf muscle pump system or more commonly the tiny one-way valves malfunction . I would suggest you to do exercise every day , loose excess weight , avoid high heels , elevate your legs every three to four hours for 15 minutes to assist gravity and thereby your circulation and avoid long periods of sitting or standing . If condition doesn't get improve in a month then consult cardiologist . Doctor may prescribe diuretic along with other medicines .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
