Hello,
I can understand your concern. Your boyfriend has been surrounded by chemicals for his job and is consuming harmful substances like tobacco. In addition, he might be in the
withdrawal symptoms phase for his addiction of drugs. Any of these substances or situation can cause to develop swelling in the cheek along with inflamed eyes, though exposure to chemicals would be the more possible cause.
I would advise your friend to take protections while doing his job to have minimum or no direct exposure to the chemicals. In addition, he can start taking antihistamines such as Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) or Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for 5 days. If it would be an
allergic reaction, this medicine will help.
In addition, for the burning sensation in the cheek, he can apply local
Benzocaine gel (Mucopain) topically over the area 3-4 times a day expecially before meals.
If the condition worsens, it is advisable to visit a physician and go for
blood test to determine
complete blood count in order to diagnose possible ailment and start treatment.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish your friend feels better soon.
Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
